Just Call Me Joe Joe by Jean Alicia Elster
Amazon Rating: 5
Just Call Me Joe Joe by Jean Alicia Elster is a very quick, informative and entertaining read. The first of a 3-book series, this title is the story of Joe Joe, an African-American boy who loves to read. In this particular selection, Joe Joe is introduced to the world of the Negro Baseball League. While this book is informative from a historical perspective, the storyline also affords children lessons about hygiene, materialism, and meeting adversity.
Just Call Me Joe Joe is also illustrated very well. The pictures are very helpful for ELL students. I highly recommend this selection for a Black History children’s selection, or just to add to any school or library bookshelf.
